WHY STAYINATHENS?

As you probably know more than 500 people have booked accommodation through Stayinathens the last two years. This is due to our efforts to create a system adapted to Erasmus needs and it gets more popular among Universities hosting Erasmus Students.

It is important to say that the Stayinathens initiative started with the encouragement of the International Offices of several Greek Universities and of course with the exclusive support of the Erasmus Student Association of Athens University of Economics and Business.

Why it is difficult to find accommodation in Athens?

• Greek house owners make contracts for the minimum period of 1-2 years, not for 5 or 4 months.
• A furnished flat is not common in Greece cause there is no demand for them.
• Greek house owners do not use short term rentals for the simple reason that there are Greek Students who make contracts for 4 years

Under these special terms we had to find a balance and persuade the house owners to rent their flats, furnish them and accept to pay the bills. Moreover these owners are obliged to rent their flats for 9 months instead of 12 months since in the summer the flats are empty.

We explain all these in order to share with you the difficulties of this effort so that you understand what STAYINATHENS is all about.
